Locate: Strawberries are delicious, red, heart-shaped fruits adored for their sweet flavor and valued for their culinary versatility. Strawberries are widely available in grocery stores and farmer's markets.
Nutrition Components: Vitamin C, Antioxidants, Potassium, Manganese, Folate, Fiber
Recipe: Summer Berry Quinoa Bowl
Quinoa, cooked: 4 cups
Chicken, diced: 0.5 pounds
Strawberries, sliced: 2 cups
Spinach, fresh: 2 cups
Feta, crumbled: 2 ounces
Balsamic Dressing: 1/2 cup
Walnuts or almonds (optional): 1/4 cup
Directions:
Cook Quinoa and Chicken, then Cool in refrigerator.
To Assemble: Place chilled quinoa in the bottom of the bowl and top with all remaining ingredients (each one next to each other) and top with walnuts if using.
Flavor Profile: sweet, mildly acidic, floral
Classroom Activity Suggestion: Strawberry Salsa. Have students observe strawberries with a magnifying glass to make observations and describe the fruit with their senses. Then, work collaboratively to prepare a strawberry salsa recipe.
